What Is Asbestos Testing?

Asbestos testing involves collecting a sample of suspect material and analysing it in a laboratory to determine whether it contains asbestos fibres, and if so, which type. Samples are analysed using polarised light microscopy (PLM) and, where required, dispersion staining or transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Testing provides definitive confirmation of asbestos presence or absence, enabling appropriate management or removal decisions. Sampling should only be conducted by trained personnel to avoid fibre release.

What types of asbestos can be identified?

Is testing the same as a survey?
