Groundworks Environmental Support — Intrusive Investigation, Asbestos in Soils & WAC Classification
Kent, South EastScope-dependent (grid sampling + lab turnaround)
Project Overview
Clearscan Environmental supported groundworks operations and the LARC by completing an intrusive investigation and implementing contamination-control measures across a defined 750m² enabling works area in Kent. The investigation assessed asbestos contamination within made ground and underlying soils, alongside targeted sampling for WAC testing to confirm waste classification and compliant disposal routes. A structured grid sampling strategy and depth-discrete sampling provided reliable data to support duty of care, waste documentation, and remediation planning.
The Challenge
- Historical made ground with potential asbestos and hydrocarbon contamination
- Requirement for grid sampling and depth-discrete profiling
- Coal tar, PAHs, and hydrocarbons associated with historic land use
- Compliance requirements for WAC classification and disposal routing
Our Approach
- Designed structured grid sampling strategy across 750m² area
- Implemented depth-discrete sampling for contamination profiling
- Conducted targeted sampling for asbestos in soils and WAC testing
- Coordinated with LARC and groundworks contractor throughout
Deliverables
- Asbestos in soils characterisation report
- WAC testing results and waste classification documentation
- Contamination profiling data supporting remediation planning
- Compliant disposal route recommendations
Project Outcomes
- Reliable contamination data supporting duty of care obligations
- Clear waste classification enabling compliant disposal
- Remediation planning supported by defensible sampling strategy
- Groundworks operations proceeded with contamination controls in place
